Merritt Construction Services Wins Excellence Award from ABC

The Baltimore Metro Chapter of the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), a non-profit trade association, has named Merritt Construction Services the winner of an Excellence Award in their annual Awards of Excellence Program.

Merritt won the award for their renovation of University of Phoenix’s Maryland Campus located in Merritt’s Columbia Corporate Park at 8830 Stanford Boulevard. The University required a complete renovation of their entire first floor space totaling 24,895 square feet. The project involved seven phases and was completed in nine months while allowing the University’s staff members and students to continue operating during the construction. The retrofit was designed to fit with the University’s Generation Four classroom technolgy, which includes the latest in high-end, high-tech finishes.

The project called for a contemporary design with clean lines, vibrant colors and extensive glass throughout. Renovations included an entirely new lobby, an open workstation area, new offices and several additional workstations for the University’s support staff. In addition, glass walls and aluminum frames were used on the exterior offices to increase daylighting and brighten the space.

The existing classrooms were also retro-fitted with new efficient T5 lighting, new carpet and paint throughout, new dry-erase walls, new high-tech handing wall projectors, motion sensors and new furniture. Merritt also installed a WattStopper energy management and time-clock system to help reduce energy consumption in the space.

Merritt Construction Services will officially receive the award at ABC’s Annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony on April 30, 2014 at the Marriott Waterfront in downtown Baltimore.
